Wikifoundry News - July/August 2016
Hey guys, here's what's happening at WikiFoundry currently. Apologies for not keeping you guys updated;
A new search solution is being researched and tested since the current one leftover from Wetpaint is unreliable and crashes constantly.
There's an on-going project to replace page generation that will make the site faster than before.
The photo upload tool will soon be replaced by a non-Adobe Flash solution as Flash continues to be discontinued across multiple platforms.
Email notifications for mass messaging are currently disabled. The service we had been using for several years, Mandrill, changed their policies and wanted to start charging us a lot of money to send email, so we switched to SendGrid. With any email sending service, there's a concept of reputation, and we want to build our reputation with SendGrid and slowly introduce mass messaging notifications again rather than open up the floodgates all at once.
Recently, Wikifoundry Central was down for 2 weeks due to a bug in regards to a setting for the wikis. Only one other wiki was affected by this, and the wiki will be back up, rest-assured. However, 'Discussions' is broken on Wikifoundry Central in the mean-time. If you need to create a thread, please go to a relevant page found in the left Navigation Panel and scroll to the bottom and use the 'Start a New Thread' form. If you want to see what threads have been recently replied to, use the 'Updates' section of the wiki to keep up with the most recently replied-to threads. More information about this issue can be found in this thread.
In the meantime, you guys might also run into parts of the platform that are down (currently it's the 'Members' section of the platform). There is no set time-frame this will be fixed in currently. Apologies in advance.
This is due to us also re-writing a big component of the platform to make it more reliable as well. In case any of you don't recall, our coding isn't exactly 'up-to-date' so-to-speak. Its still the same old coding Wetpaint used. Hopefully the re-writing will improve most of the platform, even if it's just a small portion of the platform. When you come across a part of the site that is down, you will know, as you will get the following error message;
Sorry - this feature is currently unavailable.
Please be patient as we do this improvement work. Thanks guys! We really appreciate it!
